Care Companions

We have created some new positions suited to qualified carers but also those looking for a new career in a role with real purpose. Care Companions will provide care and support for residents when and where they need it, building a warm and enriching home environment. Care companions will work with and support a small group of up to eight residents within their assigned household to live healthy and meaningful lives within a family-like environment. A care companion will build personal and appropriate relationships with residents, ensuring their needs and wellbeing requirements are consistently met.

As a care companion you will undertake home making activities such as preparing and cooking meals, cleaning, laundry, and general household tasks.  You will work together with your colleagues to create an environment where residents retain a level of activity and independence, and are able to participate in a variety of clubs and events according to their own interests and wishes. Care Companions will undertake day-to-day care and resident support, including some personal assistance such as showering where required.

A great Care Companion will be highly personable, organised, flexible, and passionate about delivering the highest level of care and service to Ballarat’s elderly residents. We are inviting applicants with experience working in an aged care environment (who hold a Certificate III or above in Individualised Support), as well as applicants who are keen to become Care Companions and can demonstrate the characteristics and skills we’re seeking from other areas of experience. You may have been a home maker yourself in charge of a household, or worked in a care or hospitality environment. You will be highly empathetic, a great team player, and a person who gets things done.

You apply via written application here on our careers page, or create your own short YouTube video explaining why you’d be a great Care Companion (see instruction below).

Short listed applicants will be invited to complete online assessments, attend a half day selection centre during the second half of July and undergo a Police check. Successful candidates will be provided with the required training and commence employment on a rolling basis from August through September.
